Important Information: how to find code for sentry safe
| Open Sentry 1230 We have a Sentry 1230 safe which is a combination only safe. We have the combination, and rarely do we open it, only to put in or retrieve important papers. We are unable to open it now, I went to the Sentry site for suggestions with no help. Are there any suggestions on how to open this. Thnaks Terry |

| I'm sort of in the same boat as the rest of you, only I'm not sure I have the numbers to the combination in the right sequence since it's been so long since I opened it. Can it be looked up by the serial number? |
| If you have the model & serial number of your safe you can contact Sentry and they'll give you the combination for a $6 fee. |
| To open the safe - turn the dial to the left first. Be sure to go past zero at least three times, then stop at the first number of your combination. Then turn the dial to the right, be sure to go past your first number (only once) and then stop at the second number in the combination. Then turn the dial to the left to your third number (don't turn it past your second number, just stop at the third number when you get to it). |

| Where is the serial number located on the Sentry Model 1230? We just moved into a house with this safe installed in the wall and I want to miniize the amount of the damge I do to the wall. Note: the serial number is NOT near the hinge on the front like like it is with newer safes. |

To open the safe - turn the dial to the RIGHT first. Be sure to go past zero at least three times, then stop at the first number of your combination. Then turn the dial to the LEFT, be sure to go past your first number (only once) and then stop at the second number in the combination. Then turn the dial to the RIGHT to your third number (don't turn it past your second number, just stop at the third number when you get to it). THis process allowed the opening of our safe on the first attempt... |

I have the same problem as the rest of you. I have a bunch of old baseball cards in it and have not opend it for some time. I know the combo but does not open. I have a grinder that will take the hinges off. I guess that is my only sollution. I will NOT buy another Sentry Safe. |
