Are you a great cook? Can you whip a large meal together in an hour and have everyone rave? Do you know a family thats trying hard but seems to be running behind?Or a family thats needy?

Why not start a home business where you make a real home made meal to come home to. Dinner in abox is one of thosthings you just think about. Now we ahve done it for a neighbor and they liked it real well.

I made an appetizer.. just something to pick at before and after dinner, a main course- usually a heaft 5 pound or more cassarole with at leat two side dishes and homemade biscuits (not canned) and a nice two day dessert. It was very much appreciated. I didnt charge becaus I loved this neighbor and she hardly ate but she loved my cooking.

You could find out who is inneed and surprise them more so than those who can afford to eat and cook.

This is more like a random act of kindness than a business but you coudl turn it into a business and then pass on the goodfortune from it to those in need.

That's a great idea!! You could really market to families who maybe just had a baby. That first week is quite hectic (especially if it's your first one). I know years ago when I had my first baby, I had so many people bring over meals to me for the whole week and it was a Godsend. My husband loved it too!! I think really anyone who is pressed for time would benefit from this as well.

I like the idea. I don't know that there's a market for it, though, outside of what already exists. It's called take-out. As far as the original poster's idea for needy families, isn't that called meals on wheels? Otherwise, as the second post mentioned, the need is filled by family, friends, and charitable organizations, e.g., church, etc.

What a great idea! I love it! What a wonderful way to get your cooking out there if you love to cook! But then doesn't your home kitchen have to be up to health department standards for a food service kitchen? And how are you going to make money? Can ordinary people afford to cover the cost of your groceries and other supplies, gas and wear on your car, and time? Hmmm. But I sure want to taste your dishes.

Yeah reading that made me think of meals on wheels, but isn't that more for people who can't really leave the house and such? It's a really nice thing to do though and a good way to get to know your neighbourhood and build a secure neighbourhood where everybody cares for everybody!

Comment #5 DallasCowgirl from Dallas, Texas -

LOL! I was thinking that as I was typing it. Actually, Meals on Wheels is for seniors.

Melana, I like what you said about building a secure neighborhood where everybody cares about everybody else. That's charity. Charity's nice, but I think the OP is talking about building a business. I'd have to agree with the other poster who brought up the money issue.

I like the idea and it sounds like a nice gesture for friends. I cook a lot but it seems like the business can be time consuming and extra people to work at the business.

Actually Meals on Wheels is for anyone who can't cook for themselves and can't get out to buy groceries.

However, the idea she has is a solid idea for families that are really on the go. Take a family that has kids who play hockey or baseball or have dance classes and both parents work. You could make these meals to be delivered on the days they are busy.

Actually, I think that it could turn into a lucrative business if you go after families with two executives in the family.

It is a very interesting idea. I think you could do well with it. There are a suprising number of people who need this kind of service.
