Anywhere You Want

Patents

Thank author of this post/commentWhenever you think of an idea for a new item to put on the market do not let this idea out to anyone until you have put an application in for a patent.

The reason you want to do this is because you then have proof of ownership and a date that you started it in case someone hears about what you are doing and has the resources to make it faster than you can. You can then put yours on the market and sue them for stealing your idea.

You need a date of start and that is very important for later.

You can also get a patent on a novel approach to an old idea. So if you see something that you can improve on you can also apply for a patent for the improvement and in that way you cannot lose your shirt or your money.

Thank author of this post/commentMy ex-husband had the idea of having some sort of dispenser in your shower that carried your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. Well, of course he didn't do anything about it and now they're available everywhere. So, yes, it is very important to get your idea patented right away or else you lose out just like my ex did.

Thank author of this post/commentPatents are a great way of keeping your ideas alive and well and yours.

If you do have a good idea and you apply for a patent then on everything you do, whether it be a flyer with information on it or a mock up of what you want to make you put on it "Patent Pending". This will stop anyone else from thinking they can steal your idea.

BUT... after you have started the ball rolling you have to be able to follow through. You cannot just get a patent on it and then sit back. You have to start making a proto-type or a mock up of what it will look like and then go to manufacturers to see what it will cost to produce and to the bank to get financing if necessary.

So the patent is the first step and then your real work begins.
