Shredders can be dangerous, especially to children and pets who may not realize the danger with messing with them. That is why you need to get a shredder that offers safety features that will turn off when a hand, finger, or paw gets close to the shredder opening. Shredders should never be operated by children, not even when supervised -- it is equipment, not a play toy.

If Children never learn to operate equipment... how will they ever learn to be adults?

Can they go from play with cheap plastic Chinese toys at 17 to an adult at 18?

Now I wouldn't suggest having a 5 yr old operate a shredder... but by 12 or 13 they certain certainly learn how and why! Now how would you compare the safety of shredders to lawn mowers? Lots of kids mow the lawn and many even make a good living.

Maybe you should recommend your kids take your cross cut shredder door to door and shred documents for people!

I agree that each parent should determine whether their child is ready to run office equipment. But that being said, some parents will not bother to supervise their child. And in the very less, you should be sure of your child's competence before letting them operate it.
