I can tell you hands down who my worst boss IS;My boss recently bought our company outright from other owners that he split ownership with for about 8 years. He employes several relatives at the business - one of them is his son who outright refuses to work or keep any regular hours whatsoever. He son has been busted 4 times for an OUI in our State and can never again hold a license - which means often times employees are asked to pick him up from home and bring him to work or vice versa. He has also been investigated for child abuse and domestic assault on several occasions. He spent 30 days in jail at one point in which he not only got to keep his job - he was paid during that time. The employees have not received raises in nearly 4 years and at the beginning of this year - our hours were cut across the board - yet his son remained. Ironically many of us fell into a different tax bracket and there is not a significant drop in pay because of it. Our boss also uses our business to 'lube' his salesman job for OfficeMax. Which means he basically gives away free printing to woo customers into buying the office products from him. That way he claims poverty with our company - and rakes in commission checks on his end. All the while, he complains that none of us are willing to pitch in when they need extra help - in other words, his son is behind in his work. Why should any of us pitch in and do extra - none of us have any positive incentive to do so. He won't threaten to fire anyone because without documentation or just cause - he would be raked over the coals in our State. He has zero ground to stand on so he basically sits back and takes it because of a situation he himself created. He called an employee meeting recently and ALL of his employees left early for the day - that is how little respect we have for him. The answer we have given him is simple - fire your son and we will all talk about giving one for the gipper...otherwise - don't count on us being there for you. |
