This is the craziest thing I ever saw. What happens when they make these calls and then the person on the other end who SPEAKS English asks them a question they don't know the answer to?

Besides, all they have to do is press freaking #2 for Espanol. It is on every voice prompt menu!

I think that this basic lesson in English conversation on the telephone is good enough for beginners who want to learn how to talk to someone in English on the telephone, that is. It pays to learn the basics of a proper telephone conversation.

We should also practice courtesy when we talk on the phone. Let us remember that different people have different interpretations to how we say things so we should always be careful with the tone that we are using when we talk on the phone.

I worked as an English teacher in Asia for a couple of years and teaching this kind of thing is good as long as it isn't taught in seclusion to other area of English. My problem always was that the language used in "Office English" is actually english you would use in ohter situations too. When the same language was presented in other situations, students didn't think it would be appropriate to use because they were previously taught that this was "Office English". Students shouldn't be pigeon holed when it comes to language I reckon.
