| I contacted Elmers Co. which is now the owner of the rights and patent to the Hunt Mfg Co (Boston) pencil sharpener located in Statesville, NC. Hunt was bought out by Elmers Glue. Their customer service says there is no parts, especially the large gear for the Model 17, 18, 24 and 41 available. They said there was an aftermarket mfgr. that has stopped making the gear. Call them and get the story at 800-879-4868 |

| "Model 18 prototype repro"
My dad has a Boston electric pencil sharpener, Model 18. When it quit working he insisted that it should not be trashed. I did not understand why he wouldn't simply replace it until I saw how otherwise solid this thing is. It's a very sturdy unit and makes a perfect pencil point. The large gear just disintegrated and cracked.Like many of you, we were not able to find parts. Getting another of the same vintage model gives no comfort that the same thing won't happen again. When I saw these posts I knew we weren't the only folks dealing with this and something had to be done. I was able to successfully make a repro of the large gear for a Model 18 Boston Electric Pencil Sharpener. It isn't binding or laboring or having any problems. I am working to refine the prototype and will have a small supply available soon. Please let me know if you want more info. |
