I acquired a Smith-Corona DeVille electric portable (Model K3RA) recently. It seems to work fine except I'm having trouble with the new ribbon. It doesn't always rise with the key strike. I'm not confident that I have the ribbon installed properly. I'd appreciate any helpful advice.

my typewriter broke. i have located the problem and was wondering what course of action i should take. is it something of value? should i not touch it? can anyone fix it cheap? the line that pulls the paperboard back has broken off of the gear that pulls it. thanks.
