Catalogs

Thank author of this post/commentOne of the ways of promoting Avon is to drop catalogs in driveways. I live in a brand new development and there are fewer than ten developed houses. If I wanted to drop catalogs, I could build a loyalty. Should I start? I have the baggies already.

Thank author of this post/commentDo you mean drop catalogs like driving by and toss em in the drive way (kinda like a drive by shooting)... or actually ringing the door bell introducting your sell and leaving a catalog?

Thank author of this post/commentI guess what people do is put them in driveways or hang them on doorknobs. I have other doorknob hangers that market specific products. Years ago someone in the neighborhood left catalogs in our driveway this way.

Thank author of this post/commentWouldn't a little personlized sales do better than the drive by shooting style of marketing?

Thank author of this post/commentI personally hate being approached by people about Avon or anything. I think I would appreciate it mroe if you left it by the doorknobs or in the mailbox if it fits.

Thank author of this post/commentThank you, Simba. That's my thinking. And that's one of the reasons I couldn't make it in Mary Kay. The MK Cultists would not help me build my business any way other than accosting strangers while I was out shopping or dining or going out just for that purpose.

Thank author of this post/commentThere is someone in my neighborhood that drops avon books in our driveways. I have taken them in and read them, but I don't buy avon very much so I have not responded yet. But, at least she/he got me to look at it I guess. You may try dropping them off at apartment mailboxes. More customers that way. Plus people can just take one if they want to.

Thank author of this post/commentPlease be careful regarding putting anything in a MAILBOX. If you place items in mailboxes without postage the post office will get on you. They may make you pay the postage for the items or worse.

Stick to the drive ways, porches, doors, etc.

Thank author of this post/commentThank you, Ralph. That's so true. That mailbox is USPS property or something like that. I'll be careful. Although I live in a VERY small town and I think it would be OK. I won't do it anyway.

I like the way you put it, Debra. Thank you.

Thank author of this post/commentI used to be an Avon Sales Manager and I would suggest that you talk to as many people as you can. You don't have to be chatty cathy but at least introduce yourself as the Avon Lady in the neighborhood and then leave having given them the brochure personally.

All you have to do is say: "Hi I'm Sally and I'm your neighborhood Avon Lady. I'm just leaving you my brochure to look at and if you would like anything please call me. I will leave one each campaign at your door so I'm not interrupting what you are doing and you can get in touch with me through my phone number or my e-mail which is on the back of the brochure. Have a nice day."

Plain simple and now she has a face with the number. If you can't reach them the first time then leave the brochure and go back a few times until you catch them home. Then say: "Hi, I'm Sally and I left an Avon Brochure for you to look at. I just wanted to introduce myself to you and if you need anything please call or e-mail me at the number and address on the back of the brochure. I will be leaving you one each campaign. Have a wonderful day and hope to hear from you."

I feel the personal touch is much better than just a brochure.

Thank author of this post/commentI have to admit that I rarely respond when a catalog just appears. If I know the person I am more likely to buy from them and continue to do so if I love the product.

Thank author of this post/commentUnfortunately all those catalogs that end up on my driveway just get tossed. I don't even bother looking at them.

The reason you can't hang or put them inside a mailbox is because it is a Federal offense to tamper with someone's mailboxes. If you are not a postal worker and that is not your route....opening or hanging an item on is tampering. Not only can't you leave Sales catalogs or any catalogs for that matter on or in a mailbox, but you can not set them on the counter or even outside on top of the newspaper machine at the post office. It boils down to...the post office don't want you to walk around and deliver your own items, they want you to pay postage.

Thank author of this post/commentIf you place "mail" (ie: a flyer, catalog, etc) in someone's mail box you are responsible for the payment of postal and the post office will bill you if they catch you doing it... so you might as well pay them to begin with so they can do all the work!
